Denail has large bears.

In the national park, we went on an interpretive hike with 12 people. This shot is from shortly after a bear encounter where the park ranger choose another path to lead the group on.

A timid swimmer

Adam was trying to get the dog to swim by throwing a rope for her to fetch. She just pulled it in inch by inch.

Waiting for me

I’m so impressed by Teka. We have only had her for about 3 weeks and she’s so bonded with her new pack that I find her waiting outside doors for me. The outhouse included. Maybe it’s a fear of losing touch with a pack again, but either way I love that she’s always near my side.

Sweat Lodge

Step 1) Raft the Nenana with some of your favorite people on the planet.
Step 2) Camp at the confluence of 2 rivers.
Step 3) Build a large fire out of drift wood.
Step 4) Heat short iron railroad rails in the coals until they glow red.
Step 5) Bring the irons into the sweat lodge and create your own steam.

Rafts on cars, not SUVs

We loaded up Jackie’s car with 3 people, 2 dogs, and 1 large river raft for an overnight trip… continuing a long standing tradition of using a 4-door sedan in place of a more traditionally utilitarian vehicle.

Two poops, one bag

Teka (my dog) and Ruby (Jackie’s dog) met for the first time today in Fairbanks. Friends at first sniff, those two! Adam took them both for a potty-walk and when he gave us the ins & outs report. It was, “If I could describe those two in a phrase, it would be two poops, one bag.” Sort of like how Adell and I began as 2 people 1 uterus!
